Avena sativa

Oats are a cool-season annual cereal grass that originated in the Fertile Crescent from its wild ancestor, Avena sterilis. Oats make a great cover crop whether you are looking to add biomass to your soil or offer forage to your animals. Its extensive fibrous root systems excel at erosion control and its upright growth habit can serve as a natural trellis for legumes. Oats suppress weeds and take up excess nutrients to hold them in place until your next crop is ready to absorb them as the oats decompose. Avena sativa, also known as common oats, is also used to make oatmeal, rolled oats, and milky oats! Oats typically grow 12-36 inches, sometimes even taller. Oats grow best in cool, moist conditions. Quick to germinate and mature given adequate moisture, oat seed can be sown in spring or fall. Broadcast the oat seed, rake them in shallowly, and keep the soil moist for rapid emergence.

Oats will winter-kill in much of zone 7 and colder, so if you plan on using it as a fall cover crop, we recommend sowing in late-summer or early fall, 6-10 weeks before your area’s average first frost. Once killed by hard frost, it can be left to act as a mulch to continue suppressing weeds, insulating the soil microbiome, and protecting the soil from erosion until spring at which point you can plant directly into the mulch if using no-till methods. It will not regrow in the spring like Winter Rye. In zones 8 and warmer where oats are likely to over-winter, when you are ready to terminate the cover crop, mow it to leave it on the surface as a mulch or till it in to incorporate it into the soil. Wait at least two weeks after killing the oats to plant your next crop. The same goes for spring plantings. Seeding rate: 4 pounds per 1,000 square feet.

Great trial set. Just be careful throwing the orange one!
Style: Assorted Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Blue isn't that easy to see in the yard White charges with bright light/UV and is truly a game changer for night-time fetch. Both dogs clearly favor it. Orange is easy to see in the grass at day They're 3 different weights as well, so double trial. I prefer medium for my big dogs, though light performs well too The orange is HEAVY and unyielding. Do NOT throw it with a ball thrower. It could damage your house or knock your dog out. Seems tough though.

Good squeak and bounce
Size: Small Set of 8
My friend's smallish dog can make them squeak and they have a good bounce. The dog loves them. We returned another brand that did not squeak. They're colorful and are durable.

Excellent durability!
Size: Medium Set of 6
I’m impressed with how durable these balls are! The rubber is nice and thick and tough, so my dogs have been unable to rip them apart yet. The spikes help clean their teeth when they chew, which is a plus. After weeks of use, the rubber is not sticky and does not smell. They haven’t lost shape or bounce. The size is perfect for my large shepherd husky dogs, as well as my medium sized Heeler. The loud squeaker in 2 of them has stopped working, which I’m not sad about. As a matter of fact, I’d give 10 stars if all of the squeakers stopped squeaking, lol! The package of 6 balls was a great value!! Will definitely buy again.

So much fun
Size: Large Set of 3
The dog and my wife love these. The spines keep your the drool you have to touch to the minimum. Very durable for a dog that loves his toys and destroys them. Squeak is fun but got a little much. Just stabbed knife into the squeezer hole and silenced them right up - still kinda squeaks, just without all that high pitch goodness.
